Columbia Area Transit
Branding Website
Public transportation needs to be easy to use, unfortunately it’s usually the opposite. Our number one goal was to make an accessible and understandable experience by simplifying the complexities of public transport.
A strong foundation
We first looked at the building blocks. The logo, colors, fonts and imagery. We simplified the logo to be legible from far distances. Picked a typeface that was friendly, clean and flexible. And refined the CAT purple and color pallet to be bold, accessible and ownable.
Routes and timetables
Timetables were created that easily scaled from desktop to mobile. Provided a website feature that allowed riders to track where their bus is in real time. Created custom maps for a visual references that were legible and understandable. These elements were use digitally, in printed materials and at the bus stops.
Website
When users come to the CAT website they are likely needing to see routes, timetables or buy bus fares. We made sure to elevate these items to the main navigation for easy access. We created a quick links spot directly below the main marquee so regularly requested information was easy to find. The website is mobile friendly and utilizes bold colors, text, language options, live text time tables and alternate text for images to make for an accessible experience.
We were honored to work on a project that allows everyone to get around in a sustainable and low cost way. The CAT system continues to expand and add new routes with ridership increase. You can purchase your own ticket on the website.
